Travel between annual capitals by river. The Mahart Hydrofoil guide. Time, cost, and is it better than the train?

The Danube connects three capital cities: Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest. While the train is faster, the Hydrofoil is an adventure.
Mahart is the state shipping company. They operate the "Vöcsök" (Grebe) or "Sólyom" (Falcon) hydrofoils. These are Soviet-designed engineering marvels that lift the hull out of the water to reduce drag, cruising at ~60km/h.
Mahart also runs slower scenic boats to Szentendre and Visegrád.

This guide was created to help visitors understand how Budapest’s Danube cruises really work—beyond glossy brochures—so you can pick a boat, time of day and experience that genuinely suit how you like to explore.
